Enjoying Everyday Basic Skills: Reading, Writing, Math

The primary purpose of Enjoying Everyday Basic Skills: Reading, Writing, Math is to help everyone successfully use basic reading, writing, and math skills in everyday living. It is also designed to help individuals study and pass any standardized basic skills test, hopefully, on the first try.
Enjoying Everyday Basic Skills: Reading, Writing, Math is a study-review preparatory guide that is specifically designed to improve basic skills. The aim of this text is to help individuals learn, relearn, apply, and enjoy basic reading, writing, and math skills in their everyday life. There are a variety of reasons to enjoy everyday basic skills: parents and grandparents review basic skills to assist children; children enhance their basic skills through remediation and acceleration; students in grades 4 through college participate in tutoring to improve basic skills; adults review basic skills for employment and self-empowerment; senior adults review basic skills to hone their brain muscles; students of all ages review basic skills for local, state, and national tests; and everyone reviews basic skills to succeed in everyday basic living skills at home, school, secular and non-secular settings, work, and within the community.
The authors of this guide felt that there was a need to provide an extra boost to everyone who needs a little more preparation in order to use basic reading, writing, and math skills successfully. Consequently, this manual is intended to address this need.
Key Elements of this Study-Review Guide. Key elements of Enjoying Everyday Basic Skills consist of the following:
-
Alignment with a wide-array of objectives. The basic skills addressed in this text are closely aligned with state and national learning objectives which are applicable to learners of all ages.
-
High-level reading skills. The assessment of reading comprehension skills places emphasis on applying inferential, analytical, and critical reasoning skills to the reading of any level of text.
-
Language arts assessed in context. The assessment of language arts uses text passages and requires understanding of edited English as used in the United States, including making revisions to improve semantic and syntactic quality of text.
-
The assessment of mathematics addresses arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and the ability to solve problems using a combination of mathematical skills in multiple-step processes.
-
Analytical writing assignments. The assessment of writing requires an individual to write a composition in response to an academic assignment that asks the learner to analyze and discuss a contemporary social, political, legal, or economic issue.
The text consists of more than 340 pages. It contains a glossary, background information for each objective in each module, optional questions, supplementary questions, review questions, guidelines and a checklist for writing/writing prompts, and extra practice math assignments. This text has been peer-reviewed and field-tested by experts in the fields of mathematics, language arts, and reading.

Basic Skills Study-Review Preparatory Guide

Basic Skills Study-Review Preparatory Guide
This Basic Skills Study-Review Preparatory Guide has been written as a supplementary aid to assist examinees to prepare for the Illinois Certification Testing System’s Basic Skills test. The Basic Skills test is “designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge of fundamental skills in reading comprehension, language arts, writing, and math” (Study Guide for Basic Skills--300, 2010). This test is required for all individuals who wish to become certified as teachers in the state of Illinois.
This study-review preparatory guide is not a replacement for the official study guide that is prepared by the Illinois Certification Testing System for the Basic Skills test. It is not a replacement for other study preparatory manuals that are written by other authors. However, in order to help individuals understand the type, structure, format, and contents of the test, the authors referred to the official study guide for assistance in preparing this manual. The authors also named the sources of the information that were used throughout the text.
Past test results reveal that there is much concern about the preparation of individuals who take all state tests, particularly, the Basic Skills test. The authors of this guide felt that there was a need to provide that extra support to examinees who need a little more preparation in order to pass the Basic Skills test on the first try. Consequently, this manual is intended to address this need. The text contains more than 300 pages. Addendums will also be added as needed.
This text contains a glossary, background information for each standard in each subarea, optional questions, supplementary questions, review questions, guidelines and a checklist for writing, writing prompts, and extra practice math assignments. This text has been peer-reviewed and field-tested by experts in the fields of mathematics, language arts, and reading. See the acknowledgment page for verification.
In order to enhance examinees’ confidence, prior to the exam, a comprehensive mock exam has been prepared and will be administered to an examinee after the manual has been studied and thoroughly reviewed. Assessment of Professional Teaching APT Test, 5th Edition

Assessment of Professional Teaching APT Test, 5th Edition
ISBN: 0-9761098-6-7
This text was developed to assist examinees in
preparing for the Illinois Certification Testing System's Assessment
of Professional Teaching (APT) test. This study-review
guide will help an individual to become familiar with the type,
structure, format and contents of the APT test.
The text is divided into six (6) subareas, which
correlate to the subject-matter covered on the official APT test.
This text is in no form a replica of the official APT test. However,
the author's eighteen months of research in composing more than
300 pages, based on the objectives, have proven beneficial to examinees
in successfully preparing for and passing this state-mandated test.
Practice Test Questions
Some examinees need that extra boost in order to
take and pass some exams. Therefore, practice test questions titled:
"Review of Objective 000-" appear at
the end of each subarea or at the end of specific objectives. These
questions correspond to some of the objectives in the official study
guide. They serve only as a guide and should not be considered the
actual questions appearing word-for-word on the official test. However,
approximately 30 questions are actually based on the exact 30 sample
questions that appear in the official study guide that is published
by the Illinois Certification Testing System. These are included
in order to link the examinees to the actual type, structure, and
format of the questions on the official exam. Examinees will also
be asked to respond to two constructed-response statements: (1)
Planning and Delivering Instruction–based on successful teaching
strategies, and (2) Managing the Learning Environment– based
on effective classroom management skills. Sample constructed-response
questions and examples are included in this study-review guide.
Two New Accompanying Updated Addendums
Two new addendums have now been written to accompany
the official 5th edition text. Addendum 1 provides questions or
statements that are specifically designed to help candidates successfully
address the constructed-response statements.
Addendum 2 provides additional multiple-choice
test questions that are closely constructed to represent those that
appear on the official test. All three texts can now be obtained
for just one price, which appears below.
